Plans are being developed to expand this program to include longer periods of study and support of a minority professional mentoring program. Students in the service learning program have participated in a variety of aging-focused projects in Nicaragua, including: elder home staff training, community organization, clean-up and repair of elder homes, water supply expansion, and therapy programs. They have provided more than 8,000 hours of collaborative community service in Nicaragua and delivered more than 10,000 pounds of healthcare supplies and other goods to the country.
