A new journal entry in Gerontology & Geriatrics Education (The official journal of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education) was published in late November 2016, highlighting JFRF’s international service-learning program in Nicaragua and it’s long-running partnership with Portland State University. The article discusses how the initiative in Nicaragua began, the evolution of the service-learning program, as well as first hand accounts from faculty and students of the benefits and challenges of the program over the course of more than a decade of programming. Among the co-authors of the article are JFRF’s founder and president, Dr. Keren Brown Wilson, and JFRF Board member, Dra.Carmen Largaespada-Fredersdorff.
